I mentioned that many moons ago… There are plans to move OTR forward to use ECC and ED25519 to be exact. The implementation in OTR for that… I have no idea about the timeframe. There is hope… it's still better than Email in terms of privacy, but that is no excuse for much needed improvements in OTR.
